Open lingerie plays with cutouts, sheer panels, and openings to reveal just what you want, exactly where you want it. Open-crotch panties, an open bodysuit, a fishnet bodystocking, an open-cup bra, or a matching set: there are as many levels of daring as there are ways to feel good in your own skin.
In the shop, I’ve often seen customers hesitate because they thought they had to “have the body for it.” In reality, the right style is above all the one you feel comfortable in. A well-placed opening, a pleasant fabric, and a cut suited to your body shape can completely change the way you see the piece—and sometimes your reflection too.
What is open lingerie?
We talk about open lingerie when the opening is genuinely part of the garment’s design: a split crotch, an open cup, or a deliberate cutout on the bust, stomach, or hips. So it’s not simply an outfit with a bare back or sheer lace. Here, the cutout is designed to create a visual effect and leave certain areas accessible without removing all your lingerie.
The different types of open lingerie
Open panties and split thongs
This is the simplest style to start with. The cut is similar to classic panties or a classic thong, with an opening at the crotch. Some designs are very discreet, while others play more with straps, lace, or faux leather. You can also browse the other lingerie pieces to compare cuts.
The open bodysuit
A bodysuit lets you style your entire silhouette in one piece. The openings may be at the crotch, on the cups, at the stomach, or along the sides. If you like cutouts, straps, and sheer fabrics, take a look at my selection of bodysuits and harnesses too.
Open bodystockings and jumpsuits
Fishnet hugs the body while leaving plenty of freedom for cutouts. Some bodystockings have an opening only at the crotch, while others combine several open areas. To see all the variations in mesh, lace, and fishnet, also discover the fishnet bodystockings.
The open-cup bra
An open bra keeps the structure of the straps and back band while freeing all or part of the breasts. Depending on the design, the result can be very graphic with straps, or more delicate with lace.
The open lingerie set
A matching set lets you enjoy the same fabric, details, and color across several pieces. It’s practical if you want a harmonious silhouette without having to coordinate the elements yourself. You can compare it with my classic lingerie sets.
How do you choose the right level of openness?
There are no rules. Some people prefer a small, almost invisible crotch opening when standing; others like open cups or very graphic cutouts. For your first piece, focus above all on an area you already feel comfortable highlighting. You can always explore bolder cuts later.
Which cut should you choose for your body shape?
The size shown on the label is a starting point, not a judgment about your body. Check the manufacturer’s measurements when available. For a bodysuit, your bust, waist, and hip measurements, as well as your torso length, can all affect the fit. For open panties, comfort around the waist and hips remains essential so the straps don’t pull.
If you’re between two sizes, I generally prefer a piece that follows your body rather than a style that’s too tight. Lingerie should let you move, sit down, and breathe normally—even when it’s very sexy.
Lace, fishnet, tulle, or more structured fabrics?
Lace creates a delicate, intricate look. Fishnet is more stretchy and adapts easily to curves. Tulle adds sheerness with a lightweight feel, while some more structured fabrics create a graphic effect and provide more support for the silhouette.
If you want something softer and more romantic, you can also take a look at the sexy chemises. For a bolder look or two-person scenarios, the sexy outfits collection opens up even more possibilities.
Wearing open lingerie alone or as a couple
Open lingerie doesn’t need a “special occasion.” Some women choose it simply for themselves because they like the way a particular cut or lace changes their posture and confidence. As a couple, it can of course help create an atmosphere, set up a surprise, or accompany role-play.
The most important thing is to choose the piece for the right reasons: because you like it and want to wear it, not because you feel you have to match a particular image.
Can you wear it under clothes?
Yes, with some styles, especially open panties and fairly lightweight bodysuits. Simply check the seams, fastenings, and metal details that could show under close-fitting clothing. Very open designs or open-cup bras are generally more enjoyable as a dedicated outfit than for a full day under clothes.
How do you care for open lingerie?
Cutouts, straps, and lace are often more delicate than classic underwear. Always check the manufacturer’s label. Hand washing or using a delicate cycle in a mesh bag protects fine fabrics, while air-drying helps prevent damage to the elastic. Fasten the hooks before washing so they don’t catch on the lace.
My advice for your first piece of open lingerie
Start with a cut that’s already similar to something you wear and enjoy: panties if you like two-piece sets, a bodysuit if you feel good in a piece that wraps around your bust, or a bodystocking if you love fishnet. The opening should be the little detail that changes everything, not a constraint.
