What is male anal pleasure?
Male anal pleasure is primarily based on stimulating the prostate—a walnut-sized gland located approximately 5 to 7 centimeters from the entrance to the rectum, along the anterior wall. The prostate is extremely rich in nerve endings connected to the pudendal nerve, the same nerve that transmits pleasure signals from the penis. Stimulating it can produce deep, more diffuse and more intense orgasms than a typical penile orgasm—something many men describe as a sensation “inside the body” rather than on the surface.
This is a subject I discuss very often in the shop, and I know the taboo remains strong. Prostate stimulation has absolutely nothing to do with sexual orientation—it is an anatomical reality. All men have a prostate, all men have nerve endings in the anal area, and all may potentially experience pleasure through this route. My role is to recommend the right accessories and advice so that this exploration can happen safely and without embarrassment. My article prostate and pleasure: understanding and exploring covers this subject in depth.
Types of anal sex toys for men
Prostate stimulators
Prostate stimulators are sex toys specifically designed to target the prostate, thanks to an anatomical curve that positions the stimulator’s head directly against the gland once inserted. Most feature a vibrating motor with several intensity and rhythm settings. Some models add an external arm that stimulates the perineum—the sensitive area between the testicles and the anus—for combined internal and external stimulation. Brands such as LELO, with their Hugo and Bruno ranges, and Fun Factory are benchmarks for premium prostate stimulators—ergonomics, motor power and quiet operation all come together.
Cockring plugs
Cockring plugs combine a cock ring and an anal plug in a single accessory. The cock ring maintains a firm erection through venous compression while the plug stimulates the prostate through passive pressure. It is especially popular during intercourse—it enhances both partners’ sensations without requiring any additional handling. Some models feature a vibrating motor that simultaneously transmits vibrations to the penis, prostate and partner’s clitoris. In my experience in the shop, this is the accessory that most pleasantly surprises men who were hesitant to explore anal pleasure.
How prostate stimulation works
The prostate surrounds the urethra and plays a role in producing seminal fluid. Stimulating it through pressure, vibration or massage causes increased local blood flow and activates nerve pathways connected to genital pleasure. Unlike a penile orgasm, which is concentrated in the glans, a prostate orgasm is felt more diffusely throughout the pelvis—many men describe deep pelvic contractions and a more gradual, longer build-up in intensity.
| Type | Stimulation | Sensation | When to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vibrating prostate stimulator | Targeted pressure + internal vibrations | Direct prostate massage, deep orgasm | Solo or with a partner |
| Stimulator with perineal arm | Prostate + perineum simultaneously | Dual internal-external stimulation | Solo |
| Cockring plug | Penile compression + prostate pressure | Stronger erection + anal fullness | With a partner (during penetration) |
How to start prostate stimulation
Preparation and mindset
The first rule is relaxation—the anal sphincter contracts involuntarily when you are stressed. Take the time to relax, breathe deeply and explore the area with a lubricated finger before inserting a sex toy. Hygiene can also provide peace of mind: a shower beforehand and, if you wish, a gentle enema can ease any concerns.
Lubricant: an essential partner
The anal area does not produce any natural lubrication. A water-based anal lubricant with enhanced viscosity is absolutely essential. Apply generously to the stimulator and around the anus. Reapply without hesitation if you feel the slightest friction—there is never too much lubricant for prostate stimulation.
Progressing in size and intensity
Start with a slim stimulator—no more than 2 to 2.5 cm in diameter—with a tapered tip and a flared safety base. Insert it slowly in the direction of the navel—the prostate is located along the anterior wall. Once it is in place, explore the different vibration settings, starting with the lowest. The prostate often responds better to continuous, moderate stimulation than to strong, erratic vibrations. With time and practice, you can move on to larger or more powerful models.
Materials and safety
Medical-grade silicone is the material of choice for prostate stimulation: non-porous, sterilizable, flexible and perfectly suited to internal anatomy. A flared base is essential—it physically prevents the toy from being completely inserted into the rectum. Check that the stimulator is made in one piece, with no detachable parts that could come apart inside. USB-rechargeable models are preferable to battery-powered ones—their watertightness is better and their battery life more reliable.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Forcing yourself or rushing—the prostate is discovered through relaxation, not performance
- Forgetting lubricant or using too little—it is the number one cause of discomfort and abandoning the experience
- Confusing prostate stimulation with deep penetration—the prostate is only a few centimeters from the entrance, so there is no need to go far
- Using a sex toy without a flared base—there is a real risk of migration that may require a trip to the emergency room
- Associating prostate stimulation with sexual orientation—it is anatomy, not identity
Care and hygiene
Clean your prostate stimulator with lukewarm water and mild soap, or with a dedicated cleaner, before and after every use. Medical-grade silicone can be sterilized in boiling water for 3 minutes for thorough disinfection. Dry it completely before storing it in an individual pouch—residual moisture encourages bacterial growth, especially with anal accessories.
